My Services

Remember that when you are struggling and fighting and perhaps feeling you are getting nowhere, maybe even despairing — those are the times when you may be making slow, sure progress. — F. Scott Fitzgerald

efore we move any further, I must provide an important legal disclaimer. I am not a medical professional. I am a simply a writer, researcher, and editor who has been helping people find clinical trials since 1987. Therefore, I cannot and do not offer any medical advice. Instead, I provide you with the medical information you and your family need to better understand your medical illness or condition and make informed decisions about clinical trials. My expertise comes in finding the information you need and the clinical trials you or a loved one might be eligible, and to coach you through the process as needed.

Service A: Finding clinical trials that offer new hope in treating for your disease or condition.

The world of clinical trials is vast and sprawling. For a novice, especially someone who is sick and needs urgent help, it can be overwhelming and confusing to sort through it. I can quickly find and provide you with information on clinical trials that are currently recruiting new patients and guide you through the application process. If I an unable to find a clinical trial for your condition, then there is no charge.

Service B: Providing medical information and more about your illness that reads in plain English.

I find that for many people suffering from complex diseases, including cancer and heart disease, simply understanding their disease and the various ways of treating it is difficult because their doctors simply cannot take the time to tell them tell them everything they need to know about it. So what do I do? I gather orthodox, state-of-the-art information written in plain English for you. This information comes from the National Institutes of Health, from dozens of recognized and legitimate medical research journals, such as The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Lancet, as well as from major hospitals and research centers.

Service C: Helping you create a Network of Care and Support among your family and loved ones.

When my father was diagnosed with metasticized, inoperable cancer, he was in the hospital and too sick to even focus on finding a clinical trial to give him added years. He was 71 years of age, and he was dazed and confused and deeply depressed. My older brother and I said, “Dad, don’t you worry about a thing. We’re going to take care of you.” If you’ve recently been diagnosed with a devastating illness, you may also be feeling worried and defeated, without any energy or opportunity to look for a better treatment. If this is your situation, but you have family members or friends who may be willing to step in and give you the support and do the research you need to find medical options, and I can work with them to structure a Network of Care and Support to efficiently share the workload in finding medical options for you while also providing critically-needed emotional care.

Service D: Coaching you and/or your Network of Care on exactly how to effectively search for clinical trials.

The world of clinical trials is vast and confusing. For instance, there are currently some 2,800 clinical trials either recruiting or ramping up to treat COVID-19 that are listed in http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. For cancers, that figure is some 19,223 trials. For heart disease, the number is some 19,500. Finding and understanding all the various options in clinical trials can thus be difficult, if you are a medical patient and need to focus on getting well. Among the different types of cancer, for instance, you may may well have to make a decision as to what type of chemotherapy or immunotherapy you’re willing to take a risk on. But how do you find out the latest information on the drugs involved? What has already been published in valid medical journals? I can provide you with much of this information, but I’d rather charge you less and instead coach you and your team on how to research it. In other words, rather than selling you a fish, I’d like to teach you and/or your team how to fish.
